William Ruto Reveals Plans to Reappoint Peter Munya and Mithika Linturi

Meru – President William Ruto has confirmed ongoing discussions with former Agriculture Cabinet Secretaries Peter Munya and Mithika Linturi about their potential return to government.

Speaking in Maua on Wednesday, April 2, Ruto assured Meru residents that the two leaders could soon join his administration.

“I have been in discussions with these two political leaders. We already have a plan in motion. Just relax, everything is fine. Are we together?” Ruto stated.

His remarks came in response to Meru Governor Isaac Mutuma, who had urged him to involve Munya and Linturi in the Kenya Kwanza government.

Governor Mutuma’s Plea
Mutuma praised the two leaders and requested the president to find roles for them.

“We have respected political leaders in Meru. The first is Peter Munya, and the other is your friend, Franklin Mithika Linturi. In your inclusive government, which brings together all leaders, let Linturi and Munya also be part of it,” Mutuma said.

The governor also pushed Ruto to fast-track pending government projects in the county.

“There’s a program by former governor Kiraitu Murungi to build a cancer research center worth KSh 1.9 billion. We know the president is the only one who can ensure the funds come to Meru to help with the hospital’s construction,” he added.

Linturi’s Controversial Exit
Mithika Linturi, a former Agriculture CS, faced turbulent times during his tenure. Farmers nationwide accused him of overseeing a fake fertilizer scandal that rocked the sector.

The scandal nearly cost him his job before MPs saved him from impeachment. Bumula MP tabled an impeachment motion, but Linturi survived after only four of the 11 committee members voted for his removal.

Speaker Moses Wetang’ula later dissolved the committee, marking the end of the process. However, Linturi’s relief was short-lived.

Cabinet Dissolution and Firings
On July 12, 2024, Ruto dissolved his entire Cabinet following nationwide Gen Z protests. While some ministers returned, Linturi was among those permanently removed. His exclusion fueled speculation about his future in government.

Now, with Ruto’s fresh remarks, speculation is rife that Linturi and Munya could stage a comeback. However, their return remains uncertain.

What Next for Munya and Linturi?
Ruto’s statement has left Meru residents divided. Some believe the two leaders deserve another chance, while others remain skeptical.

Whether Munya and Linturi will reclaim government positions remains to be seen. For now, Ruto’s assurance has sparked hope and debate in equal measure.
