Fred Ogola Defends Anti-Ruto Chants at Nyayo Stadium: ‘It Will Continue’
In a viral video, Ogola was seen addressing fans before the match, instructing them to begin shouting at exactly the 6th minute and 25th second. He explained that this symbolic timing represented the moment Kenya lost its “new independence” to broad-based government proponents after the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) talks.
“When it reaches the sixth minute, 25th second, start shouting until the stadium gets wild. Why? Because that is the day that our independence after impeaching Parliament was taken by the broad-based government proponents,” Ogola said in the clip.
Inspiration from Global Protests
Defending his stance, Ogola compared the protest to similar demonstrations in Spain, where Catalans use El Clásico matches to voice political dissent.

“I lived in Barcelona for five years. During Real Madrid vs. Barcelona matches, at exactly 17 minutes and 14 seconds, fans would make noise to mark the year 1714 when Catalans lost their independence to Spain,” he explained.
“53 Million Kenyans Feel the Same”
Speaking exclusively to TUKO.co.ke, Ogola refuted claims that he was solely responsible for the stadium protest. He insisted that millions of Kenyans share similar frustrations with President William Ruto’s leadership.
“On the allegations that I was among the organisers of the chants, let me say that many people, if not 53 million Kenyans, have the same opinion. So whether I organised or not is neither here nor there. The main thing is that people feel the president should go,” he stated.
He emphasized that his role was only to demonstrate how citizens could use social gatherings as a platform for their grievances.
“I saw people using social forums to express their feelings, and I am happy Kenyans came out in large numbers to do so,” he added.
“Focus on the Real Issues, Not the Organisers”
Ogola dismissed the fixation on who led the chants, urging authorities to instead focus on the economic struggles Kenyans face daily.
“If they are saying it’s me, then who organised the one in Naivasha?” he questioned. “They should stop chasing shadows and address real problems—unemployment, over-taxation, and the high cost of living.”
A Message to President Ruto
He challenged President Ruto to reflect on why the protests are gaining traction instead of searching for scapegoats.
“If you can’t solve the problem, the chants of ‘Ruto must go’ will continue, whether I organised them or not. Let him answer those questions instead of looking for who did what and who organised what.”
