Kisumu Among 9 Counties Set for Power Outages on March 18, What you Need to Know!
Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has announced planned electricity interruptions across nine counties on Monday, March 18. The power outages will last up to nine hours as KPLC carries out system maintenance.
Why KPLC is Cutting Power
In a notice on Sunday, March 17, KPLC explained that the scheduled maintenance will facilitate the upgrade of power lines, connection of new customers, and road construction projects.
“Notice is hereby given under Rule 27 of the Electric Power Rules that the electricity supply will be interrupted as hereunder. It is necessary to interrupt supply periodically in order to facilitate maintenance and upgrade of power lines to the network; to connect new customers or to replace power lines during road construction, etc.,” KPLC stated.
Counties Affected and Specific Areas

1. Narok County (8 AM – 4 PM)
Affected areas: Narok County Referral Hospital, Narok County Offices, Narok Water, Lenana Estate, Narok Prison, Polytechnic, Naivas Supermarket, and surrounding customers.
2. Kisumu County (9 AM – 5 PM)
Affected areas: Katito, Sondu Market, Ahero, Kochogo, Nyakwere, Nyamarimba, Kanyamlori, Kolweny, and nearby customers.
3. Murang’a/Kiambu Counties (9 AM – 5 PM)
Affected areas: Ndula, Kilimambogo Teachers, Magogoni, Kiboko Farm, Kenchic, Makutano, Jawabu Quarry, Helena Quarry, Fourteen Falls Market, Ngoliba Market, Kabaa Market, and adjacent customers.
4. Mombasa County (9 AM – 5 PM)
Affected areas: Miritini Estate, Miritini Catholic, St. Elizabeth, Miritini Guest House, and surrounding areas.
5. Nyeri County (8 AM – 5 PM)
Affected areas: Endarasha, Charity, Watuka, Embaringo, Kimunyuru, Gakanga, Gitegi, and nearby locations.
6. Kirinyaga County (9 AM – 5 PM)
Affected areas: Majengo, Piai, Murinduko, Rogoi Market, St. Susan, Kariati, Kadawa, Gold, Mumbu Market, Itangi, South Ngariama, Ikurungu Market, and surrounding customers.
7. Kilifi County (9 AM – 5 PM)
Affected areas: Mtwapa, Mtomondoni, Mtwapa Police Station, Abems Multicare, Supa Loaf Mtwapa, Fayaz Mtwapa, and Mtwapa Catholic.
8. Kwale County (9 AM – 5 PM)
Affected areas: Kwale Town, Tiribe, Kinango, and nearby locations.
What Customers Should Expect
KPLC urged customers in affected areas to prepare in advance and consider alternative power sources. They advised businesses and residents to take necessary precautions to avoid disruptions.
