Simba Arati Admits AUC Race Was Tough After Raila’s Defeat: “Kuna Ukora Ya Hali Ya Juu”

Kisii Governor Simba Arati has acknowledged the tough nature of the African Union Commission (AUC) race after Raila Odinga’s defeat. Speaking in Addis Ababa on Saturday, February 15, Arati admitted the competition was intense and involved high-level political maneuvers.

He also praised President William Ruto for his unwavering support of Raila throughout the campaign. Despite their political differences, Ruto and Raila worked together to push Kenya’s agenda on the continental stage.

“I need to thank you, Your Excellency, because I know you put all your effort into this race,” Arati said.

Arati admitted the competition was intense and involved high-level political maneuvers.

Betrayal and Broken Promises

Arati revealed that the team, including Ruto and Raila, traveled extensively to secure votes. They engaged with various heads of state, many of whom had assured them of support. However, when the election came, these promises were broken.

“I remember we went to China together and spoke to some people who promised us their votes but did otherwise,” he disclosed.

The loss to Djibouti’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Mahamoud Ali Youssouf, left Kenya questioning the sincerity of some African nations. Arati hinted at high-level political games, stating, “Kuna ukora ya hali ya juu.” (There was a high level of trickery.)

Call for Unity and Moving Forward

Despite the setback, Arati urged leaders to remain united and focused. He emphasized that the experience highlighted the importance of national cohesion and collective effort.

“You gave it your best, moving around with the former prime minister. This has shown us the essence of being together as a country,” he said.

Arati also praised the formation of a broad-based government, saying it was a step in the right direction for Kenya’s progress. He encouraged both President Ruto and Raila to stay determined and avoid distractions.

“You gave it your best, moving around with the former prime minister. This has shown us the essence of being together as a country,” he said

What Next for Raila and Kenya?

The loss raises questions about Kenya’s influence in African politics. Raila’s campaign had strong backing, but the outcome exposed the unpredictable nature of international politics.

As Kenya regroups, Arati believes persistence and resilience will be crucial. He called on Kenyans to support national leaders and remain hopeful for future opportunities.

“Your Excellency, the president, and the former prime minister, stay focused and don’t look back. Remember, nothing comes easy, and everything takes time,” Arati urged.
