Uhuru’s Jubilee Party Eyes Alliance with Gachagua Ahead of 2027 Polls
Former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party is planning a powerful coalition to challenge President William Ruto in 2027. On Wednesday, February 5, Uhuru chaired a high-level meeting where former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i was settled on as the party’s presidential candidate.
TV47 reported that key political figures attended the meeting, including Jeremiah Kioni, former ICT CS Joseph Mucheru, former PS Karanja Kibicho, and Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka. The goal is clear—unite the opposition under one strong candidate to take on Ruto.
Uhuru’s Party Open to Working with Gachagua
Jubilee has also hinted at teaming up with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. Party Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni praised Gachagua for openly challenging Ruto’s administration.
“No other politician has had the courage to criticize Ruto the way Gachagua has done. The work he is doing, I don’t know who else would have done it,” Kioni stated.

“We have emphasized the need to work with leaders who believe that UDA has mismanaged the country. Rigathi is doing commendable work. We want him to come and join us,” Kioni added.
Gachagua’s Plan to End Ruto’s Presidency
Speaking on Monday, January 27, Gachagua confirmed his plan to collaborate with other opposition figures to defeat Ruto. He revealed that he is working with Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa.
“We are committed to liberating this country from Ruto’s rule. We will make all necessary sacrifices to ensure he becomes a one-term president,” Gachagua declared.
The former DP accused Ruto of betraying those who helped him win in 2022. He vowed to do everything possible to prevent history from repeating itself.
A Battle for the Presidency
With political realignments taking shape, the 2027 presidential race is heating up. New alliances are forming, and established power structures are shifting. The battle for State House promises to be intense as opposition leaders rally to unseat Ruto.
Will Gachagua officially join forces with Uhuru’s camp? Can the opposition unite under one presidential candidate? The coming months will be crucial in shaping Kenya’s political future.
