“It is not a must I hold any political seat in Kenya. If I listened to the president, who was telling me to resign so that he could give me KSh 2 billion, he told me that resigning would enable me to run for a political seat in the future. So I asked myself if the man who was planning bad things against me, can he give me a solution to how I am going to live?” Gachagua said.
Gachagua revealed that Ruto’s offer included security and a comfortable lifestyle. However, he firmly rejected it, saying his loyalty to the people of Kenya was not for sale.
“It is not a must for me to be a political leader. However, I must commit myself to defending Kenyans and let the truth be known. There are so many people who can lead Kenyans. I am going to be on that team,” he declared.
Can Gachagua Still Vie for a Political Seat?
Despite his impeachment, Gachagua remains optimistic about his political future. He compared his situation to that of Ruto and former President Uhuru Kenyatta, who vied for presidency while facing cases at The Hague.
He stressed that the Kenyan Constitution allows anyone with an ongoing court case to contest for a political seat.
“The Kenyan constitution is open. It states that if anyone has an ongoing court case, the right to vie for a political seat cannot be revoked. So if I want to vie, I can vie. But that is not important now. What is important is how we are going to organise the country,” he affirmed.
He admitted that in 2027, he made a grave mistake by supporting Ruto without a structured political party for the Mt. Kenya region. To avoid repeating history, he is taking a cautious approach.
