Former Embakasi West MP George Theuri Joins ODM After Leaving DCP
Theuri was received into ODM on Tuesday, September 29, by the party’s Secretary General Catherine Omanyo. The former lawmaker reportedly pledged his support and allegiance to the party and the broad-based government.
ODM announced the development through its official communication, welcoming Theuri into the party.

“Welcome to the Chungwa Movement, George Theuri… in ODM we make dreams come true.”
“SG Omanyo today officially received into the party the immediate former MP for Embakasi West, Hon. Theuri, who committed his support and allegiance to the Movement.”
Theuri’s Political Journey
After leaving Parliament, Theuri was appointed as a personal assistant to then Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
His association with Gachagua’s political camp later came under scrutiny as political realignments intensified ahead of the 2027 elections.
In September 2026, Theuri publicly announced his departure from Gachagua’s political camp and indicated that he was shifting his political allegiance to President William Ruto.
His latest move to ODM now places him in a different political formation as parties continue to reorganise ahead of the next General Election.
Theuri has also been linked to efforts to reclaim the Embakasi West parliamentary seat, which he held for two terms.

Political Parties Reposition Ahead of 2027
The move comes at a time when several politicians have changed political parties as they prepare for the 2027 elections.
Former leaders and sitting politicians have been exploring new political alliances, parties and coalitions as they seek to establish their positions ahead of the polls.
Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has also been linked to the People’s Party of Kenya after leaving UDA, while Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has moved away from ODM and joined the Linda Mwananchi political movement.
The movements reflect the fluid nature of Kenya’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 election cycle, with politicians continuing to reassess their party affiliations and alliances.
The former MP’s return to active party politics adds another development to the ongoing realignment of political forces in Nairobi, where several aspirants are already positioning themselves for the 2027 elections.
