Tana River Senator Danson Mungatana Announces Death of Last-Born Daughter
The eight-year-old died while receiving treatment at Gertrude’s Children’s Hospital in Muthaiga, Nairobi, after a prolonged period of illness.
Senator Mungatana announced the heartbreaking news through his social media platforms, saying the family was deeply saddened by the loss of their daughter.

“It is with profound sorrow that the family of Hon. Senator Dr. Danson Mungatana and his wife, Hon. Mwanaisha Chidzuga, Deputy Government Spokesperson, announce the passing of their last-born daughter, Amal Mghoi Mungatana.”
The senator confirmed that Amal died while undergoing treatment at the Nairobi hospital.
“Amal went to be with the Lord on Sunday 13th September 2026, while undergoing treatment at Gertrude’s Children’s Hospital, Muthaiga.”
Amal was born in 2018 and had reportedly experienced health challenges from a young age.
According to the family, she had received medical care both in Kenya and abroad as her parents sought treatment and support for her condition.
The loss has brought grief to the Mungatana family, with relatives and friends gathering to support the senator and his wife during the difficult period.
Mungatana’s wife, Mwanaisha Chidzuga, who serves as Deputy Government Spokesperson, also joined the senator in sharing the news of their daughter’s death.
The family has since gathered at their rural home in Ngao Village, Tana River County, where relatives and friends have joined them in mourning.
Preparations for Amal’s burial are underway, with the family announcing that the final send-off is scheduled for Friday, September 18.

Messages of condolence have continued to reach the family from political leaders, friends, colleagues and members of the public following the announcement.
The death of Amal comes at a difficult time for several Kenyan leaders who have recently experienced losses within their families.
Days earlier, Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah announced the death of his sister following a prolonged illness.
Omtatah confirmed the death on September 1 and described his late sister as a well-known educator.
For the Mungatana family, however, the immediate focus remains on mourning Amal and giving her a dignified farewell.
As burial preparations continue in Ngao Village, relatives are expected to gather for prayers and other arrangements ahead of the Friday send-off.
The family is expected to release further details on the burial and memorial arrangements as preparations progress.
