Senator Boni Khalwale’s Wife Dies After Heart Attack

Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale is mourning the death of his wife, Gloria Sekeiyan Khalwale, who died suddenly on Saturday morning after reportedly suffering a heart attack.

Khalwale announced the death of Sekeiyan in a statement, describing her sudden passing as a devastating loss to the family.

The senator said his wife collapsed unexpectedly before she died.

“My dear wife, Gloria Sekeiyan Khalwale, has this morning suddenly collapsed and died after a heart attack.”

The announcement triggered an outpouring of condolences from political leaders, friends and members of the public, with many sending messages of comfort to Khalwale and his family.

Khalwale did not provide further details about his wife’s health history or whether she had been receiving treatment for any medical condition before her death.

Sekeiyan was the mother of eight of Khalwale’s children. Her death has therefore left the family facing the loss of a mother at a time when the senator continues to serve as Kakamega’s representative in the Senate.

Leaders Mourn Khalwale’s Wife

Among those who sent messages of condolence was Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, who expressed sympathy to Khalwale and his family.

Sifuna urged the family to remain strong as they come to terms with the sudden loss.

“Omwami Khalwale, pole sana for your loss. May God comfort you and your family in this difficult time. Khulialala Omwami. May her soul rest in peace.”

National Assembly Budget and Appropriations Committee Chairperson Samuel Atandi also mourned Sekeiyan and sent a message of comfort to the Kakamega senator.

“Very sorry, Senator. May God comfort you and your family during this difficult time.”

Former Principal Secretary Irungu Nyakera was also among those who condoled with Khalwale, wishing the senator and his family strength during the difficult period.

The messages reflected the widespread reaction to the sudden death, with friends and political colleagues rallying around the family following the announcement.

Mother of Eight Children

Sekeiyan was also the mother of Engine Kukaste Khalwale, who recently graduated from Moringa School as a Certified Full-Stack Software Engineer.

The achievement had placed the family in the public spotlight, with the senator previously sharing aspects of his children’s education and achievements.

Her death now marks another major loss for the Khalwale family.

Khalwale has previously spoken publicly about his family structure. In February 2024, he said he had four wives and 17 children.

Sekeiyan was his third wife.

His first wife, Adelaide Khalwale, was the mother of his first three children and died in 2019.

His second wife, Josephine Khalwale, is the mother of three children, while his fourth wife, Diana Khalwale, is also the mother of three children.

The senator’s latest announcement has brought renewed attention to the personal side of a politician who has spent years in Kenya’s political arena.

For now, the family is mourning Sekeiyan’s sudden death, while messages of condolence continue to reach Khalwale and his children.

The circumstances surrounding her reported heart attack were not immediately disclosed, and no further medical details had been provided by the family at the time of publication.
