The allegation was made on Friday, August 7, by DCI Director Mohamed Amin, as detectives provided an update on investigations into the fatal shooting that occurred in Nairobi’s Upper Hill area.
Amin said investigators had examined communication records and established what he described as contact between Gachagua and one of the main suspects believed to have information about the murder.
“Unfortunately, what clearly came out of this is that Honourable Rigathi Gachagua was in communication with one of the main suspects who was feeding him with this information,” Amin said.

“We were able to establish that apparently he also appears to have been in communication with the boda boda rider,” Amin disclosed.
Amin said investigators were not treating the matter as a political dispute but as part of efforts to establish how information about the murder investigation reached different individuals.
“If really Rigathi Gachagua meant well for these investigations, because we are not trying to deal with politics, then he should have shared the information with investigators,” he said.
Gachagua Denies Contact With Suspects
Gachagua later rejected the allegations, insisting that he had no communication with anyone involved in the murder.
“Where do I get to interact with the murder suspects while I was at my home in Wamunyoro?” Gachagua asked.
He maintained that the information he has previously shared about security matters came from individuals within government security agencies rather than people involved in criminal activities.
The DCI has identified an alleged organiser of the murder plot, the motorcycle rider suspected of transporting the gunman and other individuals believed to have been involved in the operation.
Investigators have also alleged that serving police officers played roles in the conspiracy.
The DCI has also linked a police inspector attached to Nderi Police Post to the investigation, alleging that the officer helped connect the suspected financiers with the operational team and provided the firearm allegedly used in the killing.
Mutiso Had Survived Earlier Attack
Amin also revealed that Dr Mutiso had survived an earlier attempted attack on July 7, 2026.

The killing has generated significant public interest, with questions raised over the motive, the alleged involvement of serving police officers and the identity of those who may have financed or coordinated the attack.
