UAE Introduces Visa-on-Arrival for Eligible Kenyans Holding US, UK and Five Other Residency Permits
The new directive, announced by the United Arab Emirates Embassy in Nairobi, officially came into effect on June 25, 2026, marking a significant milestone for Kenyan travellers, particularly those living and working abroad.
Under the revised entry policy, eligible holders of ordinary Kenyan passports, together with their accompanying family members, will no longer be required to apply for a UAE visa before travelling, provided they possess valid residence permits from the approved countries.

“Effective June 25, 2026, the United Arab Emirates will grant visas on arrival to ordinary passport holders from the Republic of Kenya, and their accompanying family members who hold valid residence permits from these countries,” the embassy announced.
The mission added that the initiative reflects the Gulf nation’s broader strategy of promoting easier international travel while strengthening its position as a preferred destination for tourism, investment and global business.
“This initiative reflects the UAE’s commitment to facilitating travel and reinforcing its position as a global destination for tourism, business, and investment,” the embassy stated.
Major Boost for Kenyan Travellers
The latest policy is expected to benefit thousands of Kenyans residing in North America, Europe, Asia and Oceania who frequently travel through or conduct business in the UAE.
Previously, even Kenyan citizens legally residing in developed countries were still required to undergo the standard UAE visa application process before departure.
The new visa-on-arrival arrangement eliminates much of that administrative process, allowing eligible travellers to receive entry clearance immediately upon arrival at designated UAE ports of entry.
The simplified entry procedures are also expected to benefit business executives, investors, students, professionals and tourists who regularly travel between Kenya and the Gulf region.

Strengthening Kenya-UAE Relations
The UAE has remained one of Kenya’s most important international partners in trade, aviation, investment and labour mobility.
The latest immigration reforms are expected to further deepen bilateral relations by encouraging increased movement of people, investment opportunities and commercial partnerships.
The announcement comes at a time when Kenya and the UAE have continued to strengthen diplomatic engagement through agreements covering trade, infrastructure development, defence cooperation and investment.
Eligibility Requirements Remain Strict
Despite the relaxation of travel requirements, the UAE Embassy clarified that the visa-on-arrival programme is not available to all Kenyan passport holders.
Only travellers who possess valid residence permits issued by one of the approved countries will qualify for the facility.
Kenyans who do not hold qualifying residency permits will continue following the existing visa application procedures before travelling to the UAE.
Authorities have advised intending travellers to verify that their residence permits remain valid before making travel arrangements to avoid complications upon arrival.
Positive Outlook for Travel and Business
The visa-on-arrival programme is expected to increase passenger traffic between Kenya and the UAE while making international travel more convenient for eligible citizens.

The development also reinforces the UAE’s strategy of positioning itself as one of the world’s most accessible global destinations, while offering Kenyan travellers greater flexibility and convenience.
As travel demand continues to recover globally, the latest immigration reforms are expected to enhance mobility, strengthen economic cooperation and create new opportunities for trade, tourism and investment between Kenya and the United Arab Emirates.
