Kenya Railways Flags Over 251 Fake Jobs Circulating Online
In a statement released on Monday, April 20, the corporation cautioned job seekers against engaging with the fake recruitment notice, which it says is part of a broader scheme by fraudsters to extort money from unsuspecting applicants.
“Kenya Railways wishes to alert the public of fraudsters impersonating the Corporation by advertising fake job vacancies and soliciting money from unsuspecting job seekers,” the agency stated.
The fraudulent advert, which has gained traction across social media platforms and messaging channels, lists a wide range of positions, including senior roles such as Sales and Marketing Manager and General Manager Finance, as well as technical and support roles like electricians, CCTV operators, drivers, office assistants, and cleaners.

According to Kenya Railways, the advert falsely presents a large-scale recruitment drive tied to the corporation’s growth agenda, even referencing its legitimate 2023–2027 Strategic Plan in an apparent attempt to enhance credibility.
Red Flags in the Fake Advertisement
Kenya Railways clarified that all its official communications are conducted through its verified domain.
“All vacancies are published ONLY on the official website and in national daily newspapers. Applications are submitted strictly through the official Job Link on the website,” the statement emphasised.
The agency further reiterated that it does not charge any fees at any stage of the recruitment process, including application, shortlisting, interviews, or job placement.
“Any person or entity demanding payment in the name of Kenya Railways is fraudulent,” the corporation warned.

Growing Trend of Recruitment Scams
In its advisory, TSC urged the public to rely solely on verified communication channels for accurate information.
“There are fake recruitment adverts purporting to be from the Teachers Service Commission on recruitment. Please note that authentic job vacancies, recruitment guidelines, adverts, and official information are only available on our official website, verified official communication channels, and recognised national media outlets,” TSC stated.
The rise in such scams has prompted calls for increased public awareness and vigilance, as fraudsters continue to exploit digital platforms to mimic legitimate institutions.
Public Urged to Exercise Caution

The corporation’s Managing Director, in the notice, emphasised that ongoing investigations are aimed at identifying those behind the scam, while also encouraging victims to report incidents to relevant authorities.
Experts warn that beyond financial loss, such scams also pose risks related to identity theft, as applicants are often required to submit sensitive personal documents.
As the fake advert continues to circulate, Kenya Railways has reiterated its commitment to transparency in recruitment and safeguarding the public from fraudulent schemes.
