Ol Kalou MP David Kiaraho Dies While Receiving Treatment at Nairobi Hospital
His death was confirmed on Sunday, March 29, by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, who announced that the legislator passed away while receiving medical care at The Nairobi Hospital.
At the time of publication, details surrounding the exact cause of death had not been made public. However, the late MP had reportedly been battling illness for some time and had sought treatment both locally and abroad.

“On behalf of all Members and staff of the National Assembly, and indeed on my own behalf, I convey my heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the late Hon. Kiaraho,” Wetang’ula said in an official statement.
Funeral Preparations Underway
Following the announcement, the Speaker revealed that a parliamentary funeral committee had been constituted to coordinate burial arrangements in collaboration with the family.
The committee will be led by Kinangop MP Kwenya Thuku, with Nyandarua Woman Representative Faith Gitau serving as deputy, alongside several other members drawn from the National Assembly.
The formation of the team signals the beginning of official state and parliamentary processes to honour the late legislator, who served the Ol Kalou constituency for over a decade.
A Long-Serving Legislator
Kiaraho was first elected to Parliament in 2013, successfully defending his seat in both the 2017 and 2022 General Elections, a testament to his sustained political support in Nyandarua County.
During his tenure, he served in key parliamentary committees, including the Departmental Committee on Transport, Public Works and Housing, as well as the Procedure and House Rules Committee.
Colleagues described him as an active legislator who played a role in shaping policy discussions, particularly in infrastructure development and legislative procedures.
His last known public appearance was in November 2025, when he conducted an inspection tour of infrastructure projects within his constituency.
Development Work and Community Engagement

The initiative was part of broader efforts to improve access to clean water and enhance learning conditions for students in the region.
Residents and leaders from Nyandarua County have since paid tribute to the late MP, acknowledging his contributions to local development and his commitment to public service.
Past Controversies
In 2020, he was also investigated by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) over similar concerns. However, the outcomes of those investigations were not publicly detailed.
Second MP Death in 2026
Kiaraho’s passing makes him the second sitting Member of Parliament to die in 2026, following the death of Johana Kipyegon Ng’eno, the Emurua Dikirr MP who died in a helicopter crash in February.
The back-to-back losses have cast a sombre mood over Parliament, with lawmakers expected to pay tribute to their departed colleague in upcoming sittings.
As the country mourns, attention now turns to both the funeral arrangements and the impending by-election that will be required to fill the Ol Kalou parliamentary seat.
Kiaraho is remembered as a seasoned politician whose decade-long service left a lasting imprint on his constituency and Kenya’s legislative process.
