How to Check 2025 KCSE Results

The Ministry of Education has officially released the long-awaited 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results, bringing clarity to nearly one million candidates and their families after weeks of anticipation nationwide.

The results were announced on Friday, January 9, during a national release ceremony held at AIC Chebisaas High School in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County. The event was attended by senior government officials and education stakeholders, led by Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba.

According to the Ministry of Education, a total of 993,226 candidates sat the 2025 KCSE examinations. Out of these, approximately 270,000 candidates attained a mean grade of C+ and above, qualifying them for direct entry into Kenyan universities.

Speaking during the release, Ogamba said the completion of the examination cycle marked an important moment for learners transitioning to higher education and the job market.

“The release of the 2025 KCSE results marks the culmination of years of dedication by our learners and the collective effort of teachers, parents, and education managers,” Ogamba said.

Following the announcement, the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) activated official platforms through which candidates can access their provisional results. KNEC emphasised that candidates should only use authorised channels to avoid misinformation and fraud.

Candidates can access their results through the official KNEC results portal at results.knec.ac.ke. To successfully retrieve their results, learners must enter their examination details exactly as captured during registration.

KNEC advised candidates to ensure accuracy when entering their credentials, noting that errors in index numbers or names may result in failed access attempts.

“Candidates are required to use their correct index numbers and names as registered to avoid system errors,” KNEC stated.

Step-by-Step Guide to Checking Results Online

Step one requires a candidate to visit the official KNEC website and select the KCSE results section, which redirects to results.knec.ac.ke.

In step two, the candidate is prompted to enter their 11-digit KCSE index number exactly as it appears on the 2025 registration documents.

Step three involves entering the registered name used during KCSE registration.

Finally, the candidate clicks the submit button to view their results. An option to download or print the result slip is also available for reference purposes.

How to Check 2025 KCSE Results via SMS

For candidates without internet access, KNEC has retained the SMS option. Learners can check their results by sending their KCSE index number to short code 20076. Each SMS request costs Ksh25.

KNEC noted that SMS results may experience delays during peak traffic periods but assured candidates that all results are securely stored in the system.

Understanding the KCSE Grading System

KCSE results are graded on a scale ranging from A (the highest) to E (the lowest). In addition to the standard grades, KNEC issues special symbols under specific circumstances.

Grade X is awarded to candidates who were absent from the examination. Grade Y indicates involvement in examination irregularities, while Grade W is used where a candidate’s results have been withheld pending investigations.

Education officials urged candidates to remain patient where results are withheld, noting that affected cases are handled individually in line with established procedures.

As candidates review their results, attention now shifts to university placement, college admissions, and career pathways, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the 2025 KCSE cohort.
