Ruto Defends Micromanagement, Says Kenya Needs Hands-On Leadership to End Mediocrity

President William Ruto has fiercely defended his leadership style, dismissing criticism that he micromanages government officials. Speaking at State House, Nairobi, during the launch of retired Major Marsden Madoka’s autobiography, Ruto made it clear that his approach is deliberate and necessary.

“I’ve Taken the Country’s Ambition Personally”—Ruto Speaks Out

Ruto addressed growing concerns about his hands-on governance, insisting that his critics misunderstand his commitment to excellence.

“Many times I am accused of micromanaging staff,” Ruto said. “But when you have reluctant people whose mentality is that governments come and go, that is not right,” he added.

He emphasized that Kenya cannot afford mediocrity, especially in a time when citizens demand results.

“That is why I’ve taken the ambition of our country personally,” he declared.

“Performance Is Not Control”—President Clarifies His Intentions

Ruto explained that his insistence on performance should not be mistaken for control. He argued that his leadership style is rooted in accountability.

“My critics confuse performance demands with control,” he said. “But we must deliver tangible results for Kenyans,” he added.

He stressed that his administration is focused on impact, not comfort.

“I Don’t Support UDA”—Gitura Resigns Amid Political Tensions

The President’s remarks come after recent resignations from key government positions. Former Murang’a Senator Kembi Gitura stepped down in August as Chairman of the Board at Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital (KUTRRH).

“My resignation is guided by political convictions,” Gitura stated. “I don’t support the UDA government or its policies,” he added.

His exit came barely eight months after his appointment, raising eyebrows across political circles.

“I Oppose Haiti Deployment”—Kuria’s Quiet Departure

A month earlier, senior Economic Adviser Moses Kuria also resigned. Though he didn’t publicly explain his decision, he has recently opposed several government policies.

“I don’t support the deployment of Kenyan police officers to Haiti,” Kuria said in a separate interview.

His departure added fuel to the debate over Ruto’s leadership style and internal government dynamics.

“We Must Fix Mediocrity”—Ruto Stands Firm

Despite the criticism, Ruto remains unapologetic. He believes Kenya needs bold leadership to break cycles of inefficiency.

“We must fix mediocrity. That’s why I lead the way,” he concluded.

As the political landscape shifts, Ruto’s leadership continues to spark debate and demand attention.
