Musalia Mudavadi’s 2032 Presidential Bid Gains Momentum as ANC, UDA Merge
Outgoing Amani National Congress (ANC) officials have revealed that Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi is eyeing the presidency in 2032. During a meeting at the Bomas of Kenya, party leaders stated that ANC’s merger with President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) is a calculated move to position Mudavadi for the top seat.
Outgoing ANC deputy party leader and Lamu Governor Issa Timamy emphasized that the decision was driven by succession politics. According to him, UDA will support Mudavadi’s bid after Ruto completes his two terms in office.
“Let me say this, we are taking this direction because our eyes are on 2032,” Timamy stated.
Strategic Merger for a Stronger Political Future
ANC officials argue that the merger will smooth Mudavadi’s path to the presidency, as the 2032 elections are expected to be highly competitive. Outgoing ANC Chair Kelvin Lunani urged delegates to unite with UDA and back Ruto’s re-election in 2027.
“The merger ensures we secure our place in Kenya’s future leadership,” Lunani remarked.
What Happens to ANC and UDA After the Merger?
On January 17, UDA National Chairperson Cecily Mbarire announced the merger between UDA and ANC. She revealed that the two parties will form a new entity with a fresh name, new party colors, and revamped branding.
“This is not just a political merger—it’s the beginning of a national movement that will redefine our leadership,” Mbarire stated.
The new party structure will reflect a national outlook and integrate ANC leaders into key positions. Timamy and Deputy President Kithure Kindiki will serve as deputy party leaders. Lunani will take over as vice chairman, while Emuhaya MP Omboko Milemba will become deputy secretary-general.
ANC Leaders Fully Absorbed Into New Party
Mbarire confirmed that ANC’s entire secretariat and staff will be integrated into the new party, collaborating with their UDA counterparts.
“A committee has been established to ensure a smooth transition and full integration of ANC into the new party,” she explained.
The announcement has sparked excitement among Mudavadi’s supporters, who view the move as a major boost for his presidential ambitions. With political realignments shaping Kenya’s future, the country is set for an intense and strategic build-up to 2032.
