Cheboi vanished on February 21 after telling his family he was going to visit a female friend. Reports suggest the woman is involved in alcohol sales. Police are now investigating the circumstances of his death.
Elgeyo Marakwet Police Commander Peter Mulinge confirmed the incident. He revealed that the area chief alerted authorities after locals found Cheboi’s lifeless body.
“Investigations led us to the last person seen with him,” Mulinge said. “A local brewer has been arrested and is currently held at Iten Police Station.”
Wife’s Desperate Search
Cheboi’s wife, Alice Chepchumba Chebii, had been searching for him since the day he disappeared. She recounted her distress, saying it was unusual for her husband to stay out without informing her.
“I came home that evening with my daughter, but my husband was not there. I didn’t worry at first because I expected him to return or call,” she said.
Calls Went Unanswered
However, as night fell and Cheboi had not returned, worry set in. By 9 p.m., she tried calling him, but he did not pick up. An hour later, his phone went off.
“I woke up at midnight and he was still not home. I tried calling again, but there was no response. That’s when I knew something was wrong,” she added.
By morning, Chebii reported her husband missing. Days later, her worst fears were confirmed.

“This case is under serious investigation,” Mulinge stated. “We urge anyone with information to come forward.”
