DCP Supporters Forced Road Contractor Out of Ol Kalou, Moses Kuria Claims
Kuria made the claims during an interview on Citizen TV on Sunday, August 9, saying the contractor cited concerns over insecurity after the election.
However, he said reports of the contractor’s withdrawal raised concerns about the safety of workers and equipment operating in the area.

“I promised the people of Ol Kalou that, irrespective of the decision that they took on July 16, every other development project that was going on there will be completed. And I’m very much committed to that.”
Kuria said the contractor, whom he identified as Cheng Li, had reportedly moved equipment from the Ithagani-Gorika-Kanyarere Road project after citing perceived insecurity.
“I got this report that from the road contractor, a guy called Cheng Li, Chinese guy, that he’s withdrawn the equipment for one road, one of the roads I’m very proud of, called Ithagani-Gorika-Kanyarere Road, because of perceived insecurity.”
According to Kuria, the situation escalated after supporters of newly elected DCP MP Sammy Waweru Ngotho allegedly pulled down signage associated with the road project.
He claimed the incident made the contractor and his employees feel unsafe, leading to the withdrawal of machinery from the project site.
“Because the guy won, his supporters went and put down even the signage that was there for the roads. And of course, the contractor and their staff, they felt threatened and they have pulled back.”

He said roads, electricity and other development initiatives should not become casualties of political competition.
DCP Wins Ol Kalou By-Election
The claims come weeks after the DCP secured a major political victory in the Ol Kalou by-election.
DCP candidate Sammy Waweru Ngotho defeated United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate Samwel Muchina Nyagah, securing more than 85% of the votes cast, according to reported election results.
Gachagua campaigned for Ngotho, turning the election into a closely watched test of political support between the two camps.
Projects Became Election Issue
During the campaign period, the government announced and supported several development initiatives in Ol Kalou.
The projects included road construction, affordable housing initiatives, university infrastructure and hostels. Subsidised cooking gas cylinders were also distributed to residents.
Following the DCP victory, questions emerged over whether government-funded projects would continue in the constituency.
The former CS said he remained committed to ensuring that development projects promised to Ol Kalou residents are completed.
The developments have also renewed debate over the impact of political competition on public projects, particularly in constituencies where government-backed candidates lose elections.
For residents of Ol Kalou, the key concern remains whether ongoing infrastructure projects will continue and whether the reported security concerns affecting contractors can be resolved.

Authorities have yet to issue a detailed public statement confirming the circumstances surrounding the alleged withdrawal of the road construction equipment.
