Charlene Ruto Drops Case, Forgives Author Elijah Ochora for Writing Unauthorised Book About Her

In a surprising turn of events, President William Ruto’s daughter, Charlene Ruto, has withdrawn a legal case against author Webster Elijah Ochora, choosing to forgive him for publishing a biography about her without consent.

“Over the past few weeks, I have received persistent appeals through my legal counsel (Kachapin & Company Advocates) from Webster Ochora Elijah. His words and the sincerity behind them have touched me deeply,” Charlene said in her statement on Monday, July 28.

Charlene emphasized that her decision was rooted in her values as a youth advocate and peace ambassador.

“As a youth champion and as someone deeply committed to positive dialogue and responsible leadership, I have chosen to extend forgiveness. I have also agreed to pursue alternative dispute resolution outside the courts,” she added.

Ochora was arrested on Monday, June 2, after he published a book titled Beyond the Name: Charlene Ruto and the Youth Uprising without Charlene’s permission. The book sparked controversy, leading to his detention at Muthaiga Police Station. He was later charged under the Computer Misuse and Cybercrime Act for identity theft.

Charlene explained that the initial legal action was taken not out of malice, but to highlight a broader issue affecting young people online.

“People whose careers have been damaged, whose mental health has been compromised, and whose dignity has been stripped away by targeted digital attacks,” she stated.

However, Ochora’s defense insisted that the book had no malicious intent. His lawyer, Kennedy Mong’are, said the book was meant to celebrate Charlene’s achievements.

“The intention was never to defame or harm. The book showcases her positive contributions over the years,” Mong’are explained.

Mong’are also highlighted Ochora’s track record as an established author.

“He has written about other notable personalities, including Raila Odinga and Donald Trump. This arrest was excessive and unnecessary,” the lawyer said.

Senior advocate Evans Ondieki echoed similar sentiments, branding the arrest as a politically driven attempt to silence free speech

“This arrest was politically motivated and a direct assault on the constitutional right to freedom of expression,” Ondieki claimed.

Despite the tension, Charlene’s decision to forgive Ochora has drawn admiration from many quarters, positioning her as a voice of reason and maturity.
