Lawyer Njiru, who spoke to the media, expressed disbelief at the unfolding drama.
“She wasn’t booked at the Milimani holding cells,” he revealed, visibly frustrated. “She was at around 8:20 am whisked away in a green Subaru to an unknown destination. We are stranded.”
Despite her detention, Kihara managed to update her supporters through a livestream on her Facebook page. In the video, lawyers Kalonzo and Njiru remained visibly confused and distressed as authorities stalled on revealing the charges.
“Officials are trying to determine what they’ll charge her with,” Kalonzo stated, surrounded by concerned supporters.
Public Outrage and Leadership Condemnation
The arrest has triggered fury among Kenyans and political leaders. Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga condemned the move, calling it cruel and unnecessary.
“It is disheartening to see her being tormented by the same Government she helped put in office,” he said.
“For the information of the police, she is 72 years old and has to use an orthopedic belt. Treat her with care.”
The governor’s remarks have since gone viral, sparking debate over the state’s handling of political dissent.
Political Undertones and Power Struggles
While many remain unsure of the charges, it is clear that the arrest carries deep political implications. MP Kihara is a known ally of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who has openly opposed President William Ruto’s administration in recent weeks.
