DCI: We are Closing In On MP Were’s Killer
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has announced a breakthrough in the hunt for the assassin who killed Kasipul MP Charles Were. The tragic shooting, which shocked the nation, happened on Wednesday night, April 30, near the busy City Mortuary roundabout on Ngong Road.
Breakthrough in the Investigation
In a bold statement released on Friday, May 2, the DCI expressed confidence. “Detectives have forensically reconstructed Hon. Were’s movements from Parliament to the location of the shooting. This detailed analysis has yielded significant leads, enabling investigators to narrow down to potential suspects,” the agency revealed.
Moreover, the DCI confirmed that a skilled team of detectives and forensic experts from the National Forensic Laboratory had made “significant progress” in piecing together the tragic events.
Evidence Mounts
Additionally, the DCI stressed that a “meticulous examination of the crime scene and collection of critical evidence” had added fresh momentum to the investigation. Investigators believe these efforts will soon unmask the gunman.

In a chilling twist, CCTV footage showed that the MP’s assassins stalked him from the moment he left Parliament at around 7 pm. The footage displayed a man in a hood and carrying a bag, shadowing Were’s car along Wabera Street, through Valley Road, and all the way to Ngong Road.
The Attack
At approximately 7:30 pm, the MP’s car stopped at a red light near City Mortuary. Without warning, a man jumped off a motorcycle, circled the car, and fired four fatal shots. “The first shot shattered the window, while the subsequent shots hit the MP in the hand and chest,” investigators detailed.
Unanswered Questions
Shockingly, Were had earlier reported threats to his life. The DCI admitted that the motive remains under intense investigation but hinted that the killing appeared “targeted and premeditated.”
Meanwhile, an autopsy led by Chief Government Pathologist Dr. Johansen Odour is scheduled for Monday. The results are expected to provide more answers.
Nation in Mourning
The funeral committee, chaired by Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma, announced that Were will be laid to rest on Friday, May 9. Kenyans, leaders, and friends continue to mourn a man remembered for his dedication and service.
The DCI has urged anyone with crucial information to step forward and help deliver justice.
