Ahmed Yussuf: Wajir MCA Abducted for Nearly 6 Months Blames Governor, Explains Motive

Wajir, Kenya — Shock, anger, and disbelief swept through Wajir as Dela Ward MCA Yussuf Hussein Ahmed emerged after nearly six months in captivity. Even more stunning were his explosive claims: that his own governor orchestrated the abduction.

The Chilling Abduction

On September 13, 2024, gunmen wielding AK-47 rifles snatched Yussuf along Nairobi’s Enterprise Road. It was just two days before he was set to meet Governor Ahmed Abdullahi Mohamed to discuss the controversial county budget.

Yussuf vanished without a trace.

His disappearance sparked nationwide outrage. Residents of Wajir demanded answers. Civil rights groups called for investigations. The silence was deafening — until now.

Yussuf Speaks Out

Finally freed on March 8, 2025, Yussuf was dropped off in Pangani, Nairobi. Visibly shaken but determined, he spoke to the press.

“I arrived in Nairobi on September 12, 2024, before meeting with the governor on September 15 to deliberate on the county budget. Unfortunately, I was abducted on the following day while leaving South C,” he revealed.

He didn’t stop there. Yussuf directly accused Governor Mohamed of being behind the ordeal.

“My detention and everything I went through was politically motivated and closely tied to my differences with Governor Ahmed Abdullahi Mohamed,” he stated.

He claimed that while he was held incommunicado, the budget — which he had opposed — was passed without his input.

Governor Hits Back

Governor Ahmed Abdullahi dismissed the allegations immediately. He described them as “false, misleading, and speculative.”

“The release of Yussuf Hussein Ahmed was a relief to me, and I thanked Almighty Allah for keeping him safe,” he said.

He went further, warning that Yussuf’s remarks could endanger lives.

“The statements made by the MCA are unfortunate and appear intended to stir public emotions. They pose a threat to my life, security, and well-being,” he added.

The governor called on national security agencies to investigate and act.

“If opposition to the budget was the reason, why were the other eight dissenting MCAs not targeted?” he posed.

Call for Justice and Calm

Tensions remain high in Wajir. Supporters of Yussuf demand justice, while others urge calm and due process. Meanwhile, Governor Mohamed called for evidence.

“I remain committed to peace, justice, and the rule of law,” he stated.

As Wajir grapples with the allegations, one thing is clear: the silence has broken, but the storm may just be beginning.
