Siaya Drug Bust: NACADA Seizes KSh 2.9M Worth of Illicit Alcohol, Cash Safes in Bondo Raid
Bondo town in Siaya County woke up to shock and fear after NACADA led a high-impact raid targeting drug traffickers. The early morning swoop, conducted in Nyamonye Market, saw authorities seize illegal goods worth over KSh 2.9 million.
This joint multi-agency operation followed a tip-off that led officers to a known drug hub.
What the NACADA CEO Said
In a press statement, NACADA CEO Anthony Omerikwa confirmed the success of the raid.
“This operation marks a significant victory in our relentless war against drug abuse and illegal alcohol trade. We will not allow unscrupulous traders to destroy the lives of our youth,” he declared.
Shocking Discoveries
The raid targeted the home, businesses, and rentals linked to the main suspect, Francis Odhiambo Ochieng. Authorities uncovered:
- 4,600 sticks of suspected cannabis sativa
- 11 brooms of bhang, pending analysis
- 8 cartons of Supermatch cigarettes, reportedly meant for Uganda and South Sudan
- 118 cartons of Challenger spirits
- 107 cartons of Simba Waragi spirits
- 12 cartons of Dry Gin liquor
But what shocked officers the most were four cash safes believed to hold crime proceeds.
Millions in Hidden Cash
“The safes are being examined to verify the exact amount, but we strongly believe these are illicit earnings from this illegal trade,” said Omerikwa.
Police arrested two suspects—Francis Odhiambo Ochieng and Everlyne Atieno Amungo. Both are being held at Bondo Police Station, awaiting arraignment on Monday.
Not an Isolated Case
This comes just a week after a separate KSh 8 million drug seizure in Kisii County. That operation saw five arrests and the dismantling of a four-acre brewing and storage facility.
“These are not isolated events,” said Omerikwa. “This is just the beginning. We are scaling up operations across the country to dismantle these criminal networks and safeguard our youth.”
Government Moves on Mathe Wa Ngara
Meanwhile, in related action, the Assets Recovery Agency has frozen properties worth millions linked to Nancy Indiveria Kigunzu, alias Mathe Wa Ngara.
A High Court order now blocks her and alleged proxies—George Jumba Inguti and Scolastica Wambui Kibathi—from selling or transferring any of the seized properties. Among the assets are an apartment in Juja-Kalimoni and several land parcels.
