Panic in Isiolo: UDA MCA Nicholas Lorot Gunned Down
Isiolo residents are in shock after Burat Ward MCA Nicholas Lorot was shot by unidentified gunmen outside Northern Galaxy Hotel on March 26. The lawmaker was quickly rushed to a medical facility, where he remains under observation.
According to Isiolo County Assembly, Lorot’s condition is stable. The assembly has strongly condemned the attack, terming it a cowardly act of violence meant to instill fear.
“Medical teams confirm he is in stable condition, and we extend our deepest solidarity with him, his family, and the citizens of Burat Ward during this traumatic period,” read a statement from the assembly.
Isiolo County Leaders Demand Justice
County Speaker Mohamed Roba Qoto confirmed he is in direct contact with Lorot and is working closely with security agencies to speed up investigations. Deputy Speaker David Lemantile has been stationed at the hospital to monitor the MCA’s condition and provide support.
The assembly has vowed to ensure justice prevails.
“As a legislative body, we condemn this cowardly act and reaffirm our commitment to peace, safety, and justice. We are working closely with security agencies and pledge our full support to ensure those responsible are swiftly brought to book,” the statement added.
Governor Abdi Guyo Calls for Swift Action
Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo Ibrahim has also condemned the attack, calling for urgent investigations and the arrest of those behind it. He reassured residents that law and order will be upheld.
“I strongly condemn this heinous act and have asked security agencies to expedite investigations. Those responsible must face the full force of the law,” said Guyo.
The governor also sent his well wishes to the injured MCA.
“I wish Lorot a speedy recovery as he continues treatment. My thoughts and prayers are with him, his family, and the people of Burat Ward during this difficult time,” he added.
Senator Dullo Raises Alarm Over Isiolo Security
Isiolo Senator Fatuma Dullo has raised concerns about the increasing insecurity in the region. She noted that Lorot was shot four times in broad daylight, despite the presence of full-time security officers in the area.
Dullo questioned the effectiveness of law enforcement, urging authorities to take immediate action to prevent further attacks.
Police Kill Suspect in Dagoretti
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, a police officer attached to State House spokesperson Hussein Mohamed shot and killed a suspected robber in Kwa Mungai, Dagoretti. The officer claimed he was ambushed by assailants attempting to seize his firearm. After firing warning shots, he was forced to defend himself.

The officer later reported the incident at Muthangari Police Station, stating he sustained a suspected fracture in his left hand and an injury to his shoulder.
