Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka Distributes Free Farm Inputs to 22,500 Vulnerable Farmers

Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka has launched a massive distribution of farm inputs to 22,500 vulnerable farmers across all 45 wards. This initiative aims to enhance agricultural productivity and combat food insecurity in the county.

Speaking at the launch event at Lungai Primary Grounds in Tongaren on Saturday, March 22, Lusaka urged farmers to make the most of the resources provided.

“The success of this programme relies on how effectively farmers use these inputs. Our goal is to achieve lasting food security for the county,” he stated.

What Farmers Received

Under the initiative, each vetted farmer received 10 kilograms of maize seeds and 50 kilograms of fertilizer. Lusaka emphasized that proper use of these inputs would significantly boost harvests and improve livelihoods.

He further called on the Bungoma County Assembly to increase funding for the programme in the next financial year.

“Currently, we are supporting 500 farmers per ward. With additional resources, we can increase this number to 700, ensuring more farmers benefit,” Lusaka added.

Lusaka’s Key Development Achievements

During a county leadership and stakeholders’ forum at Kibabii University, Lusaka stressed the need for collaboration among leaders to accelerate Bungoma’s development. He highlighted major achievements in various sectors:

Education Sector

  • Over 300 vocational training instructors transitioned from contractual to permanent terms, ensuring job security and better education quality.

Infrastructure

  • More than 727 kilometres of roads gravelled across all 45 wards.
  • 8.9 kilometres paved to improve transportation.
  • 32 box culverts and six major bridges completed, enhancing connectivity.

Water and Sanitation

  • Construction of boreholes and piped water systems.
  • Establishment of community water kiosks in schools and markets to ensure clean water access.

Healthcare Sector

  • 235 healthcare workers, including 20 medical officers, hired permanently.

  • 548 additional health personnel recruited on contractual terms to enhance medical service delivery.

A Call for Collective Effort

Lusaka emphasized that sustainable development requires joint efforts from both government and community members.

“We must work together to address key issues affecting our people. No leader can succeed in isolation,” he said.

The farm input distribution marks another milestone in Lusaka’s commitment to empowering farmers and improving Bungoma’s agricultural landscape.
