Fury in Nairobi as Ruto’s Speeding Convoy Kills Pedestrian on Ngong Road

A foreign national lost his life after being hit by a speeding presidential convoy on Ngong Road near Adams Arcade. The tragic incident occurred on Thursday, March 13, as President William Ruto’s motorcade rushed from Lang’ata to Kibra Constituency.

Eyewitnesses say the victim, a middle-aged white man, was attempting to cross the road when the high-speed convoy struck him. Shockingly, the vehicles did not stop, leaving him lifeless on the pavement.

Angry Kenyans Condemn the Incident

Outrage spread quickly, with Kenyans condemning the convoy’s reckless speed and disregard for human life. Many accused the government of negligence and called for accountability.

Teresia Kijo voiced her frustration:
“This Nairobi tour of our president has brought a lot of harm to our people. He should stay in his office and work from there.”

Amos Muhuyi questioned the authorities’ response:
“With all the happenings since he started his Nairobi tour, is he not aware of people getting robbed, assaulted, and threatened? His intelligence crews are just not serious at all , until now his motorcade has done it.”

James Shiramba pointed fingers at security lapses:
“Who is to be blamed? You’ll always see police on the route the president is going to use hours earlier, before he passes.”

Was This Avoidable?

Many wondered why the presidential motorcade did not stop or offer medical assistance. Others asked why traffic officers allowed pedestrians to cross a road moments before a speeding convoy passed.

Wambua Tom expressed his concerns:
“Where were the traffic officers of that area? How could they allow someone to cross the roads while the presidential convoy is on the move?”

Onyango Odhiambo raised ethical concerns:
“I have never understood why the presidential motorcade knocks a person, leaving the victim to die, without considering taking them to the hospital! Isn’t life more important than all these? Furthermore, what danger would it expose the president to? Just wondering.”

Police Brutality in Kibra Adds to the Outrage

As if the fatal accident wasn’t enough, police officers unleashed brutality on Kibra youths trying to access Ayany Primary School, where Ruto was addressing residents. Videos circulating online show officers beating up and roughing up individuals, leaving many injured.

This incident further fueled public anger, especially given the recent UDA-ODM truce, which was meant to promote peace. Many questioned why the violence continued despite political reconciliation efforts.

Will Ruto Respond?

President Ruto, now on his fourth day of the Nairobi development tour, has remained silent about the tragic accident. Many Kenyans are waiting for an official statement, demanding justice for the deceased.

With mounting frustration over security, governance, and accountability, the Nairobi tour that was meant to showcase development has instead left behind a trail of pain and unanswered questions.
