Mining and Blue Economy Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho has made a bold political declaration. The former Mombasa governor pledged unwavering support for President William Ruto, a move that could shake up ODM politics. Speaking on Thursday, February 27, at Ndau Island in Lamu County, Joho praised Ruto’s leadership and commitment to uniting Kenyans.

“Me as Hassan Joho, during the rainy and the sunny period, I will work with William Ruto. I am telling you because I see that he is working to help our people,” Joho said.

His words signaled a potential shift in political alliances, as the country gears up for the 2027 General Election. Joho commended Ruto for launching development projects across the country and insisted that loyalty should be reciprocated.

“When someone does good for you, you should return the favour,” he added.

Raila’s Next Move in Focus

Joho’s statement comes just before ODM leader Raila Odinga is set to announce his next political move. Raila, who recently lost the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship bid, is expected to reveal his plans on Friday, February 28.

“I have been consulting widely with my supporters to come up with a better plan for 2027,” Raila stated.

The ODM leader has been holding meetings with party members in Migori and Homa Bay, strategizing for the future. Before the anticipated announcement, he also met his supporters in Kisumu.

Raila-Ruto Collaboration Rumors

Reports indicate Raila may be considering an alliance with Ruto. Some Kisumu youths who attended a private meeting with Raila claimed he urged them to support the government. He allegedly highlighted the developmental benefits of working with Ruto’s administration.

Raila returned to Kenya on Monday, February 24, after his AUC bid defeat in Addis Ababa. Upon arrival, he was received by Ruto at the Mombasa State Lodge. Deputy President Kithure Kindiki was also present.

During a joint press briefing, Raila dismissed claims that the Kenya Kwanza government spent KSh 13 billion on his AUC campaign. The allegations were first made by Juja MP George Koimburi.
