Rigathi Gachagua Dismisses Raila-Ruto Coalition: ‘Hakuna Kitu Kubwa’
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has downplayed the possibility of Raila Odinga joining forces with President William Ruto ahead of the 2027 elections. He believes such a coalition would have no significant impact.
Speaking to Kamba media houses on Wednesday, February 26, Gachagua stated that Raila aligning with Ruto would ruin his long-built political legacy. However, he acknowledged that Raila has the right to make his own choices.

“We don’t understand Raila Odinga. If he decides to soil the legacy that he has built over the years by supporting President William Ruto, that’s his right. We can’t stop him,” Gachagua said.
Why Gachagua Believes Raila Won’t Add Value
Gachagua argued that Raila’s influence has diminished, making his support ineffective. He pointed out that Raila previously gained votes due to his alliance with Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka. If Raila shifts to Ruto’s side, he risks losing crucial backing.
“He would have lost his votes in Kisii, Mt Kenya region. So he is not going to be of much benefit to William Ruto,” he added.
Gachagua also claimed that Raila’s former supporters have abandoned him. He noted that the church, Mt. Kenya voters, salaried employees, and Generation Z no longer back him.
“He’s been deserted by everyone. The church that had been initially supporting him has withdrawn its support. People of Mt. Kenya, people with payslips, and the Gen Zs have abandoned him,” he alleged.
Raila to Announce His Next Move
Gachagua’s remarks come as Raila prepares to disclose his next political direction. He recently returned from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where he vied for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship. Raila revealed that he had met with Luo Council elders to discuss his experience in the AUC race and his future strategies.
His announcement, expected next week, will determine his next political steps
