Rigathi Gachagua Vows to Make William Ruto One-Term President: “We Shall Make Sacrifices”

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has made a bold declaration to ensure President William Ruto’s tenure ends after one term. Speaking passionately on Monday, January 27, Gachagua pledged to work with opposition leaders Kalonzo Musyoka of Wiper and Eugene Wamalwa of DAP-K. Together, they aim to challenge Ruto in the 2027 General Election.

A United Opposition

Gachagua emphasized his commitment to a united front, highlighting the need to liberate Kenyans from what he termed as a failed administration. His remarks reflected growing discontent within sections of the political class over Ruto’s leadership.

“I want to give my commitment that we are part of this team,” Gachagua affirmed. “We will walk this journey together to liberate this country, and we shall make whatever sacrifices necessary to make sure William Ruto is a one-term President.”

Accusations of Betrayal

The former deputy president accused Ruto of betraying those who helped him ascend to power during the 2022 elections. He claimed that Ruto abandoned key promises made during their campaign, leaving Kenyans to suffer under a harsh economic program.

“President William Ruto has a very short memory,” Gachagua said. “This team here sat with him in my house and assured him that he would be President. We promised to do whatever it took to ensure his victory.”

However, Gachagua said Ruto deviated from their original agenda once he assumed office.

“The minute he reached State House, he put aside everything we had agreed on,” Gachagua lamented. “We had agreed on the bottom-up economic model to put money into people’s pockets. Instead, he brought in a small team of economic advisors who introduced a brutal program that took whatever little money people had.”

A Call for Change

Gachagua’s remarks resonated with those frustrated by the current administration’s policies. He expressed hope that opposition leaders could rally together to offer Kenyans a viable alternative in 2027.

“We are determined to stand firm, unite, and fight for the common mwananchi who feels betrayed,” he said.

The Road to 2027

The former deputy president’s bold stance marks a significant moment in Kenyan politics. His call for sacrifices and unity among opposition leaders signals a fierce battle ahead. Whether his coalition can sustain its resolve remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: the political landscape is shifting.
