Mike Sonko Adopts Boy Who Witnessed Father’s Murder in Mathare
Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has once again displayed his compassionate side by adopting a young boy who witnessed the brutal murder of his father in Mathare Area 4. The boy, identified as Baby James, was being escorted to school when the tragic incident occurred, leaving him deeply traumatized.
“God Has Blessed Me with Another Son”
Sonko took to his social media platforms to announce the adoption, stating his heartfelt commitment to the child. “I thank God for blessing me with another son. He will now be part of my family,” Sonko wrote.
Touched by Baby James’ story, Sonko expressed his desire to give the boy a stable home, ensuring he grows up in a loving and nurturing environment.
A Community Effort
Sonko extended his gratitude to individuals and organizations who supported the boy following the tragedy. He singled out Mathare Sub-County Children’s Officer Victor Owiti, Senior Chief Christine Dembah, and Assistant Chief Agness Nganga for their efforts.

“These individuals stepped in to care for the boy during his darkest moments, and I truly appreciate their dedication,” Sonko said.
Helping Baby James Heal
Acknowledging the immense trauma Baby James has endured, Sonko pledged to provide professional therapy to help him heal. He also promised to secure his education, offering him a chance at a better future.
“May God comfort and protect him during this difficult period as he mourns his only parent,” Sonko stated.
Sonko’s History of Compassion
This is not the first time Sonko has stepped up to adopt a child in need. In March 2014, he adopted Baby Satrin Osinya and his brother, Gift, after their mother was fatally shot during a church attack in Mombasa.
At the time, Baby Satrin had a bullet lodged in his skull, and his father could not afford the surgery. Sonko facilitated the medical treatment and has since raised the boys as his own. Today, Satrin and Gift are thriving teenagers living under Sonko’s care.
A Reminder of Compassion
Baby James’ story has moved many hearts, serving as a powerful reminder of the importance of compassion and community support during difficult times. Sonko’s gesture highlights the need for collective efforts to support vulnerable members of society.
As Baby James embarks on this new chapter, Sonko’s unwavering commitment to giving him a brighter future stands as a beacon of hope.
