Five Suspects Overpower Limuru Police Officers and Escape From Cells
The incident reportedly occurred at around 11pm on Wednesday, November 4, when officers opened the male cells to transfer 10 detainees to an inner holding room.
According to a police report, the transfer triggered a confrontation after some of the suspects allegedly attempted to force their way out of the facility.
Additional officers responded to the distress calls, but the fleeing suspects allegedly attacked some of the personnel who arrived to assist their colleagues.

The five detainees subsequently managed to escape, prompting an urgent security response and a search operation to establish their whereabouts.
DCI Headquarters Officers Deployed to Trace Escapees
The deployment is expected to support efforts to establish how the suspects managed to overpower officers and leave the police facility.
Investigators will also need to establish the circumstances surrounding the transfer of the 10 detainees, the response by officers on duty and whether any security lapses contributed to the escape.
The incident raises fresh concerns about security arrangements in police holding facilities and the ability of officers to prevent detainees from escaping while in custody.
No official details were provided in the available report regarding injuries sustained by officers during the confrontation or whether any of the escapees had been recaptured.
Limuru Escape Adds to Recent Police Cell Incidents
Just three weeks earlier, four suspects escaped from Itabua Police Station in Embu County after allegedly creating an opening in the wall of their holding cell.
The four detainees were being held in connection with cases involving murder, robbery with violence and theft when they escaped on October 24, 2026.
According to a police report, the suspects reportedly dug through the cell wall and left the facility without being detected by officers who were on duty.
Their disappearance was discovered the following morning during a routine inspection, when police officers realised that four detainees were missing.

Police Launch Search After Embu Escape
Despite the immediate response, the four suspects could not be traced at the time.
The two incidents have placed police station security under renewed scrutiny, particularly regarding cell inspections, supervision of detainees and the handling of suspects facing serious criminal charges.
Security Concerns Grow Over Suspects Escaping Custody
The latest escape in Limuru presents another challenge for police as investigators work to locate the five suspects and establish the circumstances surrounding their disappearance.
The deployment of DCI officers from Nairobi signals an expanded effort to trace the escapees and investigate the incident.
Police are also expected to examine the actions of officers involved in the transfer and determine whether established security procedures were followed.
For now, the immediate priority remains locating the five suspects and ensuring they are returned to custody to face the charges against them.
