Nationality of Viral ‘Russian Man’ Uncertain as Russia Reveals He Used a Fake Name
Fresh details have emerged surrounding the identity of a foreign national at the centre of viral videos allegedly involving non-consensual and explicit encounters with African women, after Russian authorities indicated that the individual may not be Russian and used a false name online.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, February 17, the Russian government clarified that the man widely described on social media as Russian has not been officially confirmed to hold Russian nationality. Authorities further noted that the name circulating online does not correspond to any recognised Russian name.
The clarification followed a diplomatic meeting in which the Government of Ghana summoned Sergei Berdnikov, Russia’s Ambassador, to address concerns over the unlawful publication of sexually explicit images allegedly involving Ghanaian women.
During the meeting, Ambassador Berdnikov acknowledged the gravity of the allegations.

“The acts described constitute a serious violation of privacy and fall within broader cybercrime concerns,” he stated, according to diplomatic sources familiar with the discussions.
However, he indicated that Russian authorities were unable to confirm the suspect’s nationality at this stage.
“The name currently trending on social media is not a legitimate Russian name but a vulgar expression in Russian,” Berdnikov reportedly explained, distancing the individual from any officially recognised Russian identity.
Identity under scrutiny
The development marks a significant shift in the narrative that had dominated online discourse in recent days. Initial reports had identified the suspect as a 36-year-old content creator allegedly from Ulyanovsk, Russia, who described himself as a “pickup artist.” The name “Yaytseslav,” which gained widespread traction online, now appears to have been a pseudonym used for social media accounts where explicit material was shared.
Russian officials disclosed that their authorities were already aware of the individual’s activities in other countries and that investigations by Russian experts were ongoing.
“Our competent authorities are reviewing available information in cooperation with relevant partners,” a diplomatic source indicated, without providing further specifics.

The revelation has shifted focus from the suspect’s presumed nationality to efforts aimed at establishing his true identity and determining the jurisdictions in which any alleged offences may have occurred.
Kenyan investigation underway
In a statement dated February 17, the DCI called on victims and witnesses to come forward and record statements, assuring them that their identities would be protected.
“We are deeply concerned about the reported circulation of intimate content involving Kenyan women, which is a clear violation of privacy, dignity, and the law,” the agency stated.
It further sought to reassure affected individuals.
“We want to assure all victims that coming forward will not expose them to harm or public scrutiny. Our teams are fully equipped to handle these cases with the highest level of care, confidentiality, and professionalism,” the DCI added.
Legal experts note that if the suspect operated across multiple countries using an alias, the case could require coordinated international cooperation to establish identity, nationality, and possible criminal liability.
As investigations continue in several jurisdictions, officials have urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified claims about the suspect’s identity.

“Establishing verified facts is critical to ensuring accountability and justice for any victims involved,” a senior official familiar with the probe remarked.
