Russian Embassy Reacts to Viral Videos Involving Its Citizen With Several African Women

The Embassy of the Russian Federation in Ghana has issued an official statement addressing widespread online circulation of videos allegedly showing a foreign man engaging several African women and secretly recording private encounters.

In a press release dated Monday, February 16, the embassy confirmed it had become aware of media reports concerning a man claimed to be a Russian national. However, the diplomatic mission stopped short of confirming the suspect’s identity or nationality.

“The Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Ghana has taken note of the reports in the Ghanaian media on the alleged involvement of a supposedly Russian citizen engaged in unethical activities and recorded those acts without consent,” the statement read.

The embassy emphasized that the information currently available remains unverified and urged the public to avoid speculation until investigations establish the facts.

The controversy erupted after multiple videos began circulating widely across social media platforms in Kenya and Ghana. In the clips, a Caucasian man is seen approaching women in public places, initiating casual conversations and later inviting them to private apartments shortly after meeting them.

Several recordings appear to have been filmed in shopping malls, streets, and supermarkets in Nairobi and Mombasa. In many of the encounters, the man compliments the women, asks for their phone numbers, and persuades them to accompany him to a short-stay residence.

Authorities suspect the recordings were made secretly and shared online without the knowledge or consent of the women involved, prompting widespread anger and calls for justice across the region.

Social media users have described the incidents as exploitative and predatory, with advocacy groups warning about rising digital privacy violations and cross-border crimes targeting vulnerable individuals.

Kenyan authorities have since launched investigations, citing concerns over privacy breaches and potential criminal misconduct. The government announced a coordinated international effort to trace the suspect due to the multinational nature of the case.

Gender Cabinet Secretary Hanna Cheptumo condemned the alleged actions, describing them as a serious violation of personal rights.

Addressing journalists, she stated: “This act is not only a violation of personal dignity and privacy as protected under Articles 28 and 31 of the Constitution of Kenya but also an affront to our national values, cultural integrity, and the safety of women and girls.”

She further directed investigative and security agencies to work with international partners to identify the suspect and determine whether additional victims exist in other countries.

Investigators are examining digital evidence, including metadata from the recordings and online accounts used to distribute the videos. Authorities are also encouraging anyone who may have interacted with the suspect to report to police.

Meanwhile, legal experts note the case could involve multiple charges, including unauthorized recording, distribution of intimate material without consent, cyber harassment, and possible human exploitation offenses depending on investigative findings.

Human rights organizations have also called for stronger public awareness on consent, digital safety, and protection of women in online spaces.

As investigations continue, both Kenyan and Ghanaian authorities say updates will be issued once the suspect’s identity and nationality are confirmed.
