Murkomen Alleges BBC Paid and Pampered Sources in Maai Mahiu Child Sex Trade Exposé
Appearing before Parliament on Wednesday, August 13, Murkomen claimed that subjects in the exposé were promised money and luxury benefits.
“Investigations revealed four women told us the BBC contacted them to allegedly seek young girls for a fictitious foreign sponsorship programme,” he said.
Allegations of Manipulated Testimonies
Murkomen said the ministry’s probe found the women were linked to each other, raising suspicion of coordinated falsehoods.
He explained that some had allegedly brought in relatives to benefit from the promised rewards.
“Some girls who testified falsified their age to qualify for the sponsorship,” Murkomen added.
The Documentary’s Shocking Claims
The BBC investigation, released earlier this month, infiltrated an alleged child sex trafficking ring in Maai Mahiu. Two women — labelled as “madams” — were filmed offering girls for sex, with one claiming to have a girl as young as 13.
The undercover team showed how children were lured with sweets or small amounts of money before being exploited.
Murkomen’s Counter-Narrative
Murkomen insisted the documentary was misleading.
“The witnesses interviewed were not underage as purported in the documentary,” he declared.
He further alleged that the two women portrayed as traffickers had been promised “significant sums” and had since relocated to unknown destinations.
BBC Stands Firm
In response, the BBC said it reached out to the Kenyan government during the investigation but received no reply.
Public and Political Outrage
Despite Murkomen’s claims, the documentary stirred national outrage. Kenyans flooded social media with calls for swift arrests of those involved in the Maai Mahiu ring.
