10 Dead, 11 Injured After Truck Rams Into PSV Along Webuye-Kitale Road in Bungoma
The fatal crash occurred on Monday night and involved a truck that reportedly lost control before ramming into several vehicles, including a Public Service Vehicle (PSV) matatu and a motorcycle, triggering a devastating multi-vehicle collision along the busy highway.
Authorities say several victims died instantly at the scene while others suffered severe injuries and were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Initial reports indicate the truck lost control moments before reaching the junction, slamming into vehicles that were either approaching or waiting near the busy intersection.
Witnesses described the impact as extremely violent, leaving wreckage scattered across the road and causing panic among motorists and pedestrians nearby.
Several residents and motorists rushed to the scene to assist the victims before emergency response teams arrived.
“Several people died on the spot while others were seriously injured following the collision involving the truck, a PSV, and a motorcycle,” Cheboren said.
Images and videos widely circulated on social media showed the matatu badly damaged, with shattered windows and twisted metal, as rescuers worked frantically to pull survivors from the wreckage.
Some footage also showed bodies lying on the roadside as police officers and emergency personnel coordinated rescue efforts and secured the accident scene.
The injured victims were taken to medical facilities in Webuye, where they are currently receiving treatment.
Meanwhile, traffic police began clearing the wreckage and controlling traffic flow along the highway, which was temporarily disrupted following the accident.

The Webuye-Kitale highway is a major transport corridor in western Kenya, connecting several counties and supporting both passenger travel and commercial transportation.
Following the tragic accident, Tim Wanyonyi expressed deep sorrow and extended condolences to families who lost loved ones in the crash.
In a statement released after news of the accident emerged, the legislator described the incident as heartbreaking and urged motorists to exercise greater caution while using Kenyan roads.
“This tragedy is a sobering reminder of the fragility of life. I urge all road users to exercise extreme caution and vigilance,” Wanyonyi said.
He further called on relevant government agencies responsible for road safety and transport management to implement stronger safety measures along the Malaha-Lugulu stretch of the highway.
“I urge all motorists and road users to exercise extreme caution and vigilance, particularly at known blackspots and busy junctions. Safety must always be our primary concern,” he added.
Residents in the area have also called for improved road signage, speed control measures, and increased police patrols to reduce accidents in the region.

Authorities say the victims’ bodies have been moved to local mortuaries as families begin the painful process of identifying their loved ones.
