Cop Hiram Kimathi Refuses Transfer to Todonyang

A storm is brewing within the police service after a bold move by Police Constable Hiram Kimathi. He defied a transfer to Todonyang Police Station, a remote post near the Kenya-Ethiopia border, claiming retaliation for standing against an alleged shoot-to-kill order.

Taking to social media, the officer did not mince his words.

“I have refused to move to Todonyang. This is not a normal transfer. It is punishment because I questioned an illegal order,”
Kimathi boldly posted on his page.

The officer, previously stationed at Kyumbi Police Station near Machakos Junction, shared that the transfer came shortly after he raised concerns about an order that, according to him, encouraged officers to shoot indiscriminately during recent protests.

“I asked my senior if we are now licensed to shoot children and women. Instead of an answer, I was slapped with a transfer,”
Kimathi alleged.

His statement has gone viral, drawing sharp reactions from the public. Many Kenyans praised his bravery, calling him a “hero in uniform.” Others condemned what they viewed as the silencing of voices of conscience within the police force.

In a dramatic twist, Kimathi revealed he had received threats following his public statement.

“They want to silence me. But I will not be part of a murderous system,”
he declared, vowing to continue speaking out.

Police officials, however, have not officially responded to his claims. A senior officer from the National Police Service, speaking off the record, insisted that the transfer was routine and had no connection to his remarks.

“Transfers are normal in the force. No officer is above the law or protocol,”
the source said.

Still, the timing of the transfer and Kimathi’s emotional post have stirred public debate. Civil society groups have now joined the conversation, calling for immediate investigations into the alleged shoot order.

“This matter cannot be swept under the rug. If officers are being punished for upholding human rights, then we are in deep trouble,”

Meanwhile, the officer remains at his Kyumbi station, unmoved by threats or pressure.

“Let them jail me if they must. My conscience is clean,”
he concluded.
