Senators Crystal Asige, Hamida Kibwana and Miraj Abdillahi Shine in Latest Rankings
Nairobi, Kenya – A new survey by Global Ranking Analysis named Senators Miraj Abdillahi, Crystal Asige, and Hamida Ali Kibwana the top-performing nominated female senators of 2024. These senators stood out for their outstanding contributions to legislation and public service.
Senator Miraj Abdillahi of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) claimed the top spot with an impressive 86.4% score. Her leadership in sponsoring impactful bills and actively participating in Senate committees earned her this recognition. “It’s an honor to be recognized for serving my country,” Miraj said. She encouraged more women to engage in politics.
Hamida Ali Kibwana and Crystal Asige, both from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), secured second and third places with 82.5% and 80.4%, respectively. Senator Asige highlighted her commitment to public service, saying, “Connecting with communities drives my work as a senator.”

Other notable performers included Senator Maureen Tabitha Mutinda (UDA) with 79.3% and ODM Senators Cathrine Muyeika Mumma and Beth Kalunda Syengo. Their dedication to regional development and legislative leadership also received recognition.
However, some senators performed poorly in the survey. Beatrice Akinyi Oyomo (65%), Esther Okenyuri Anyieni (48.5%), and Nyamu Caren Njeri (47%) ranked lowest, pointing to the need for improved performance.
How were the rankings determined?
The rankings were based on several key factors. These included the sponsorship of bills, attendance at Senate committees, and oversight of devolved functions. Media engagement, both on mainstream platforms and social media, also played a significant role. Additionally, public outreach and community activities were crucial in the evaluation process.
In another survey by Mizani Africa, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino emerged as a favorite for Nairobi’s gubernatorial seat. He secured 37.3% of voter preference and led in eight constituencies, including Embakasi East, with 82.4% support.
These results highlight the evolving political landscape in Kenya, driven by leaders striving to connect with citizens and deliver meaningful impact.
